Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (EDID)
Many members of NEST have been engaged in work on EDID.
In June 2021, Alina Sutter completed a Mitacs-funded study in partnership with Pillar Nonprofit Network on the level of representation of women and racialized persons in leadership roles in selected organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors in London and in Ontario’s agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs). The study was a follow up to the 2016 study that Stelian Medianu conducted on the same topic, designed to examine changes over time. Sutter’s study also collected new data to examine the level of Indigenous representation in leadership roles in these same organizations. In addition, new qualitative research investigated what local organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors have experienced when attempting to improve the level of diversity in leadership positions, and the associated challenges and potential solutions. The full report can be found here.
Members of NEST have been collaborating with eight Local Immigration Partnerships in Southwestern Ontario to examine the experiences of discrimination of immigrants, visible minorities, and Indigenous peoples at the local level. A representative survey of these groups was conducted in March 2021, with full reports of the findings to be released in the fall.
