Friday, April 26, 2024, 9–10 AM (EST), Zoom
Let’s drink in the WeCLISH Climate Café and connect over an insightful conversation with this month’s Café Guest, climatologist Dr. Katrina Moser. She will chat about the intersection between climate change and water resources.
Topic: “Climate Change and Our Water Resources”
Café Guest
Katrina Moser, PhD
Chair and Associate Professor
Department of Geography and Environment
Western University, London, Ontario, Canada
Description
Human activities, intensified by colonialism, have led to land clearance and fossil fuel burning. These have increased carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses in the Earth’s atmosphere. This unprecedented change in the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere has led to global warming, which has impacts across the globe. In some places, and for some people, these effects, unfortunately, are greater than in others.
In this context, Dr. Moser’s research focuses on understanding the effects of climate change on lakes, which store 87% of Earth’s liquid freshwater.
She finds that climate change and other stressors impact lake ecosystems and affect water availability by degrading not only its quantity but also its quality.
Although the impact of climate change on lake ecosystems is dire and the consequences are severe, instead of losing hope, she will discuss what needs to change to protect our water.
Let’s join her at this month’s Climate Café to listen, ponder, and share your thoughts!
