Duncan McCallum is a PhD student in musicology within the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. Duncan’s research interests lie in popular music and music production, especially as they bear on ecomusicology. His eco-musicological research focuses on popular music’s use as environmental activism, as well as methods of listening and engaging with popular music during the climate crisis. At the 2023 WeCLISH Graduate Student Conference, Duncan presented a paper on Black Metal’s intersection with environmentalism. This year at WeCLISH Centre, Duncan hopes to demonstrate how music can be an important part of interdisciplinary climate research.
